Did Scott say he was off to eat cheese?

Eric et al: More on PRRWs. I cannot help but ask where these people have encountered enough Black culture to hate blacks? And the answer I come up with, at least for the younger set, is MTV. I think millions of these PRRWs look at the image of blacks in hip hop culture and hate what they see. It looks ominous. Arrogant. In your face. Blaming. Sexual dominant. Confident. The Kings of the Lower class. (I am fascinated btw by Kid Rock. They say straight outa Compton. I say straight outa the trailer. There’s a guy who understands culture. He embraces black and white and country all in himself. An interesting interesting guy.) When PWWRs look at MTV, they see a STEREOTYPE that does nothing to dampen their prejudice. (BTW- does CMT (Caucasian Music Television) fare any better? At least BET has a few white people!!) Black American buys and promotes their own stereotype that feeds the stereotypes of others.

Want to get something really interesting? Listen to Nappy Roots, a KY rap group that portrays the life of POOR RURAL BLACKS. The fact is, there is a lot of cultural similarity between lower class blacks and whites. They face the same problems and ought to really ought to be more sympathetic. When you hear Nappy, you realize all this need not happen.

Let me give one sign of hope. We have a lot of bi-racial kids. More and more of them are not buying any of it. I think of two seniors right now. Both black/white biracial and they don’t buy anyone’s stereotype. The girl is big tall volleyball player from South Carolina. She made a speech today about her right to wear the Confederate flag on her shirt!!! I told her later if she gave that speech at college she’d be sent to camp! I then told the kids that I hoped they would join me in advocating a color blind society, including the elimination of anything that asked about race on any application anywhere! (Even the University of Michigan Admissions application.)
