Hey, everyone.
I’m back in America.
And I’ve got a new blog: Hapax Legomena.
And I’ve got a new e-mail address @gmail.com: jaspax.
And I miss my wife.
But I’ll write more about this later.
About the tsunami, I feel struck by my own indifference. Yes, there are thousands of people dying, but I have bills to pay and Christmas with my family and a wife to worry about. I have a hard time being affected by even the hundreds of thousands of people killed by a moment of seismic instability. If I try to think about it, I can get worked up, but why would I want to do that? Father, forgive me.
The God’s judgement angle is interesting, but needs to be kept in perspective. “Or those eighteen who died when the tower in Siloam fell on them – do you think they were more guilty than all the others living in Jerusalem? I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.” (Luke 13:4-5). I need to be judged as much as any of them, but God, for some reason, keeps having mercy on me.
